Am I open to feedback?
I am not writing these things to shame you, but to warn you as my beloved children.
1 corinthians 4:14, NLT
Have you ever had someone correct you in kindness but all you could feel was shame?
Being corrected or constructively criticized can be a good thing for our personal growth. How we receive it is the key to whether or not we will grow. It may not feel like it, but it is a choice.
ACT
The next time you are corrected or criticized, pay close attention to your emotional reaction. If feelings of shame start to wash over you, choose in the moment to focus on how that person’s words can make you better.
pray
God, help me to accept helpful correction and not to swim in any feelings of shame. I need your help in choosing to not allow my emotions to cloud my judgment.
