The international symbol of death or danger or poison: the skull. Bleached bone without flesh. Stripped-away humanity. Everyone knows to be wary when they see it.
He went willingly to this place of stripped-away humanity, of vulnerability. He carried his own cross there, and though he could have walked away or called on angels, he didn’t.
He went willingly to the Place of the Skull for each of us.
