Will my prayers really be blocked?

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too.

Mark 11:25, NLT

Grudges are like gel nails. They stick really, really well.

My daughter had her nails done for a school dance, but her place of work didn’t allow them. After the dance, she had to get them off. She tried every tool she had. Then I came in and soaked and cut and filed. They barely budged. Gel nails are designed to stay as long as possible.

So are grudges.

There is a glue of hurt, pride, and history that cements our grudges. Prayers still sticky with the residue of unforgiveness don’t make it very far. God is waiting for us to dissolve them in the love of his forgiveness. We have to get them off or our worship will have a film on it that God can see and makes him sad. Dissolve those grudges.

God, sometimes I want to hold grudges. I need to soak in your presence, and I need your help to dissolve them.
