How much does God care about my troubles?

Feel my pain and see my trouble. Forgive all my sins.

Psalm 25:18, NLT

I went through a phase in my life where I thought that if I was the one who made the mess then that meant God was leaving me to fix it. Like he only had time for problems that weren’t my own dumb fault. That meant I didn’t ask him for help, at least not until it got really, really bad. I convinced myself that, even when I was desperate, he would only begrudgingly help me.

God’s Word not only says–but shows–us otherwise. There are multiple accounts of people who completely and utterly disobey God, realize it, repent, and experience God’s provision and mercy.

“Feel my pain…see my trouble…forgive my sins.”

The person writing this psalm knew they could ask this of God. Not only that, but Jesus came as God in human form for these very troubles we would find ourselves in. He would feel it all and sacrifice out of love and compassion to guarantee the way back to God. Every time.

ACT

Boil some water and put it in a mug or bowl. Drop a penny or rock into that hot water. With tongs or a utensil, reach in, grab it out, feel the hot water and know that God doesn’t keep us at tongs-reach to save us. He personally reaches down into the hot water we find ourselves in and pulls us out.

pray

God, thank you for pulling me out of hot water again and again and again.
