Do forgiving and being forgiven go hand in hand?

…and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

Matthew 6:12, NLT

Some people, maybe in a religious service, have spoken this prayer, known as the Lord’s Prayer. It’s easy to verbally slip through this prayer by rote, not stopping to really consider the words.

Forgive us, we ask of God. Followed ever so closely by our forgiveness of others. We will gladly take all the forgiveness from God. It’s that second part that we tend to gloss over. Maybe we think we’re all good in that department. A lot of the time, I know I’m not.

It’s almost like being forgiven and forgiving are part of the same breath: inhale, exhale. Forgiven, forgive. One naturally invites the other.
