God likens sin with debt. Put it on the card, take out the loan, three easy installments. Before you know it, what you own, owns you. The lifting of that debt is an enormous relief. So is the lifting of sin.

And yet, there is a warning. Even with the weightless relief of our own forgiveness, we can be tempted to weigh down another with unforgiveness. We may want to say, “But did you know what they did?” Maybe it was quite serious, what they did. And yet…

Unforgiveness. Debt. It’s heavy. God wants us buoyant in our forgiven state, so light that we wouldn’t dream of putting it on another. There are so many places to go and things to do. Why keep yourself and others weighed down?
