How do I measure my sin?
“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”
Luke 7:47, NLT
We would like for God to have the proverbial scales of justice when we stand before him. We want him to load up our sin and see how light it is compared with everyone else’s. I’m telling you now that wouldn’t go the way we hope: everyone’s sin weighs the same.
We don’t like to hear that. A part of us wants to compare, to show that we are “basically good.” But if there are no cosmic scales and no chart of sin weight in the Bible, how do we measure our sin? We can’t. Only God can help us to see the true devastation of our sin.
There’s no measuring of our wrongs, no comparing to others. There’s only recognition of who we are without Jesus.
ACT
Draw a classic scale with a tray on either side. Write some of your sin on one side and then draw a cross on the other.

God, help me see my wrongs for what they are and to accept the way you allow me to live lightly, in the grace that comes with your forgiveness without comparing to anyone else.
