Does God see my progress even if nobody else does?

“I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars.”

revelation 2:2, NLT

Our first drawings, those crayon scribbles, are masterpieces that our parents treasure. Children learn to bring their creations to Mom, who oohs and aahs and puts them on the refrigerator.

At a certain point, our hard work and persistence start to go unnoticed. No one takes our work evaluation and puts it on the refrigerator. Mom isn’t looking over our completed quiet time book with pride (well, maybe some parents do).

Yet there is someone who always sees us and our hard work: God. So much of our spiritual life, especially the hard soul work, happens in the secret place where we sweat it out with God, uprooting old ideas about who we were and are. It may feel unnoticed, but it is most certainly not.
