God, Will You Help Me? (I’m at the End of My Rope!)
In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead.

There is a saying that when we get to the end of our rope, we can tie a knot and hang on. But isn’t that still our own rope? Wouldn’t it be better to let go of striving and rest in God’s mighty hand? We can easily desire making better ropes over relying only on God.
This is why being brought to the end of ourselves is often an invitation from God. As we discover ourselves clinging to people, God invites us to rely on him, much as we would lean back and trust the harness and rope if we were rappelling down a cliff. And here’s the interesting thing about cliffs: They often come with magnificent views.
