What is advent?
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Throughout history, Christians have prepared their hearts during the season of Advent for the coming of Christ as a baby in Bethlehem while also anticipating the promised return of Christ to this earth.
Advent is a four-week season that leads up to Christmas and begins the new year on the church calendar. It is a time when Christians anticipate and celebrate God’s revelation of himself to the world—past, present, and future.
Rather than following the solar calendar through the rhythms of nature, the church calendar is organized around God and his activity in the world—which is God’s redemptive story. Advent is followed by three church seasons of varying length: Christmas, Lent, and Easter.
Following the church calendar is a great way to be truly connected with the global, historical church because it follows the rhythms of God’s story as revealed in Scripture and is a purposeful way to focus our attention on God.
