Can I Be Shaped More into Christlikeness?

But the jar he was making did not turn out as he had hoped, so he crushed it into a lump of clay again and started over.

Jeremiah 18:4, NLT

I remember being fascinated by a potter’s wheel, the smoothness of the wet clay, the magic of its shape changing through the simple press of a finger or tool. It’s mesmerizing. The only way to keep the clay changing and molding under the potter’s hands is to keep the clay wet, keep it from drying out.

We are no different. We can become dry and stale, unable to change and become better in the Potter’s hands. It can be uncomfortable to be molded anew, shaped more into Christlikeness, but it’s always worth it. We just have to stay moldable by staying near the Potter.

ACT

Watch a video or go to a pottery studio and observe clay being shaped on a wheel. Observe how the clay reacts to the hands of the potter. If you’re able, try it yourself!

pray

Lord, help me to stay near you and ready to be shaped by your hands.
