Could I be shamelessly persistent in prayer?

But I tell you this—though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.

luke 11:8, NLT

Have you ever tried to wash the middle of your back, right between your shoulder blades, when you were too stiff to reach there? If you have, or if you—like I—use purple shampoo (to keep those highlights bright) and end up with purple stain in your ears that you can’t see, you know the value of having someone else help you clean that spot–

“I’ll tell you one thing,” my dad said. Walking me over to a poster in our kid’s room titled “Persistence,” he said, “You are persistent.” I’m not sure he was 100 percent thrilled about it, but nonetheless he showed he admired that I would not give up. As the oldest of four children, I knew I had to keep asking or not much else would happen.

If my human dad could appreciate my persistence, how much more might my heavenly Father?

Today, God, I will look straight at a habit that you want to change (for me, it is worrying) and persistently tell you that I want to grow in this area.

Lord, sometimes I don’t even know I harbor a harmful attitude or behavior until it’s too late. Please keep showing me how you want to make me holy–Dear Lord, help me ask big, and ask often, of you. You are a good, good father, and you want me to keep persisting. Thank you!
